Leading with Inclusion in Pittsburgh: On Stage at the Best Buddies Friendship Walk

Each year in Pittsburgh, the Best Buddies Friendship Walk brings together families, educators, advocates, and community members in support of friendship and inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). It’s one of those days where the heart of our city shows up in full, connected, compassionate, and committed to belonging.

We’re always honored to be part of that energy.

A Stage for Inclusive Wellness

For the past five years, our teachers Colton and Emily, both graduates of our 200-hour Accessible Yoga Teacher Training, have taken the stage to lead the crowd in a dynamic improv and yoga warm-up ahead of the walk.

This moment is about more than getting people moving.

It’s about visibility.
It’s about representation.
It’s about redefining who gets to lead in wellness spaces.

In a city like Pittsburgh, where community runs deep, this kind of leadership matters. By centering inclusive practices on a main stage, Colton and Emily create a space where everyone can participate, feel seen, and step into joy together.

Why This Matters

The Best Buddies Friendship Walk is the leading event in the country supporting inclusion for people with IDD. While we don’t participate directly in the walk or fundraising efforts, we’re proud to contribute in a way that aligns with our mission: creating accessible, welcoming spaces where everyone belongs.

Through movement and connection, we’re able to model what inclusive wellness can look like, right here in our local community.

Celebrating Pittsburgh’s Impact

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s Friendship Walk. Your efforts raised vital funds and awareness to sustain and expand local Best Buddies programs across the Pittsburgh region, supporting friendships, leadership development, and meaningful opportunities for individuals with IDD.

Your commitment is shaping a more inclusive city.

Looking Ahead

We’re grateful to continue showing up, on stage and beyond, bringing movement, creativity, and inclusive practices into community spaces.

We look forward to being part of the energy again next year in Pittsburgh and to continuing to champion inclusion wherever we go.
